Sun conjunct Chiron

Sunday inspiration: Take off the mask!

In honor of today’s conjunction of the Sun to Chiron in Aries, the sign of initiation and identity, I offer this beautiful piece from Jeff Foster. We can’t heal wounds which we cover with a mask. The healing of old wounds of not-enoughness is simplified when we present ourselves in true Aries fashion, with the confidence and innocence of a new babe.

TAKE OFF THE MASK
There is nothing more liberating
than being yourself.
Not your ‘self’,
but yourself.
Not the ‘self’ you invented in order to win love.
Not the mask you wear in order to please people,
make them like and approve of you,
win fame and money and build your status.
Not the façade, the games and roles you play
in order to prove how loveable you are, how kind,
how compassionate, how sexy, how wise, how funny,
how nice, how intelligent, how ‘spiritual’,
how free from worldly concern.
But your True Self.
The One that was there before you invented ‘self’,
before you put on that false and suffocating mask.
The One that isn’t afraid of being exposed,
of being seen, of being ‘found out’,
because there’s nothing to hide and nothing to lose.
The One who speaks truth and only truth.
The One you will return to upon death.
The One that no mask can create, destroy,
or truly hide.
Let yourself be seen, today.
Only illusions can be lost.
And all masks will […]

3.29.21. The power of the Libra Full Moon lingers

The Libra Full Moon culminated on Sunday the 28th, but these  lunar energies will prevail over the first few days of the week, and a conjunction of the Sun and Venus straddling Chiron was a potent element of the lunation. You can catch up here if you missed the details.  In English what that means is that the power of Chiron to strip away the veneer of protection and reveal our core wounds so that they can be released once and for all is an important aspect of the Full Moon energies.  The alignment of the Sun and Venus serves as an aid for opening our hearts and releasing negativity, frustration, rage, and resentment — IF we are ready.

It’s been my experience that we can’t release this kind of stuff until we ARE ready.  There has to be a certain amount of processing, intellectual understanding, release of victimhood, cessation of blame.  The conjunction from the Sun to Chiron peaks today and if you experienced a strong reaction to the Full Moon those feelings will likely linger until today’s alignment is complete.

Fortunately, Mercury in Pisces will align with Neptune during the day and culminate at 11:23 pm EDT – this will help us to find the necessary integration and letting go to help approach things from a more creative and spirit-focused point of view. ❤️

Psychology corner: The sadness of a happiness expert

New York Times

I found this article about a happiness expert who took his own life strangely compelling.  I had never heard of Philip Brickman, but as an astrologer whose Mercury (mind) is in Scorpio, I am an avid researcher of the nature of happiness and depression especially as it shows up in the natal chart.  Brickman is apparently best known for this study in which accident victims and lottery winners were compared to see who was happier in their later lives:

The study is straightforward. As the title suggests, the authors surveyed lottery winners and accident victims, plus a control group, hoping to compare their levels of happiness. But what the authors found violated common intuition. The victims, while less happy than the controls, still rated themselves above average in happiness, even though their accidents had recently rendered them all either paraplegic or quadriplegic. And the lottery winners were no happier than the controls, at least in any statistically meaningful sense. If anything, the warp and weft of their everyday lives was a little more threadbare. Talking to friends, hearing jokes, having breakfast — all of these simple pleasures now left them less satisfied than before.  read more here…

Philip Brickman was born August 22, 1943 in Montreal (no birth time available – the chart shown is for noon that day with the Sun on the ascendant).  Depression shows up in different ways in a chart – there is the heavy hopelessness of Saturn, the deep wounds of abandonment with Chiron, the fear and often abusive history of Pluto.  But one often overlooked astrological […]

The astrology of Greta Thunberg

I am often asked to profile good people for a change, instead of the mass murderers and psychologically unbalanced individuals that fascinate me.  So I picked Greta Thunberg, the young Swedish woman who at age 15 has become an internationally known climate activist.  Greta has been diagnosed with Asperger’s and, curiously in light of her subsequent emergence as an outspoken activist, something called “selective mutism” in which a child is unable to speak under certain circumstances.

Greta’s astrological birth chart shows that she has the both the Sun and Moon in the practical sign of Capricorn.  Capricorn people like to Get Things Done, and Greta was born just after the Capricorn New Moon so there is a sense of beginning something new.  The New Moon personality has a quality of innocence combined with an intense energy to begin something new and create sweeping change. Her Mars (depicting her drive and the way she asserts herself) is in the intense and powerful sign of Scorpio, and it is aligned with Venus which shows she is intense and independent in all of her interpersonal dealings.

Greta’s Sun is conjunct Chiron, the dwarf planet of wounding and healing.  This alignment signifies an individual who came into this world with a deep soul wound that she will be faced with throughout her life so that it can eventually be healed.  The Chiron archetype is that of the mentor – having healed our own wounds we then can choose to become a healer of others and a mentor to those who share our own affliction.  Saturn, planet of tests and challenges, faces off in a stressful opposition to Pluto, adding more stress to this dynamic.  It’s not surprising […]

The astrology of Shia LaBoeuf’s perpetual troubles

Shia LaBoeuf astrologyShia LaBoeuf has been an acclaimed actor since he won his first award at age 15.  His career as a performer began as a stand-up comedian at the age of 10.  But his long history of troubles with the law began before then when he was arrested for shoplifting at the age of 9.  He was arrested again at the age of 11 for stealing.  As an adult, despite his success in films and great respect from film credits, he continued to indicate a lack of impulse control and ability to manage his rage:

  • In 2005 LaBoeuf was arrested for threatening his neighbor with a knife and driving into his car.
  • In 2007 he was arrested for refusing to leave a Walgreen’s when asked by security.
  • In 2008 he was involved in a car crash and arrested for drunk driving although he was later exonerated for the crash.
  • In 2014 he was arrested for disorderly conduct and trespassing at Studio 54 in New York City after which he began treatment for alcohol addiction.
  • However, in 2015 he was arrested in Texas for public intoxication.
  • In January 2017 he was arrested for misdemeanor assault at a protest rally against Donald Trump although these charges were later dismissed.
  • And finally, on July 8 2017 he was arrested again for public intoxication and disorderly conduct in Savannah Georgia, threatening to kill the policeman who arrested him.
