Sun opposite Chiron

Astrological forecast for the week of September 27, 2021: Mercury retrograde and retrograde season

DeviantArt

There’s a lot to talk about this week!  Grab a cuppa something and let’s dive in.

Mercury retrograde.  Mercury turns retrograde on September 27th, the day I am writing this, at which point we have  SIX retrograde planets, plus Chiron.  This is not as extreme as last year when every planet (seven) including Venus and Mars was retrograde for many weeks – Pluto, Saturn and Jupiter will all turn direct in October and the undertow of retrograde energies will be on the wane.  But don’t be surprised if this month you find yourself feeling like it’s Groundhog Day all over again and be prepared to be in a near constant review of your life as you prepare for this new future.  Retrograde season has a purpose: it helps us to stay in the flow of life – like the ocean, there is an ebb as well as a flow and sometimes it is in the ebb where we find the most magic.

When Mercury is retrograde communication becomes more critical.  Mercury is closest to the Sun and currently it is locked in a square to Pluto, making communication not only more critical as it stations retrograde and is at a standstill, but in that standstill it is challenged by Pluto’s intense commitment to creative destruction and transformation.  The Truth will come out, and it’s not always pretty or comfortable.  But whenever Pluto is involved, that discomfort and unease virtually always evolves into powerful realizations and growth.

And now…the week ahead.  Days and times are given in EDT, please adjust for your own time zone.

Monday, September 27.  As Mercury turns retrograde the Moon is in Mercury-ruled Gemini.  There is a lot to say, a lot to think, and […]

How to use the power of this week’s Aries Full Moon

art by Emily Balivet

If you’ve been following the astrology of the year or watching my videos, or really, just living in 2020, you’ll know that things have been intense this year.  The astrological explanation for this is rooted in a triple conjunction of Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto in the sign of Capricorn which seeks to build structures and consolidate power.  Over the past couple of months Mars, the fire planet which presides over wars and aggression but also motivation and desire, has been in its own sign of Aries where it is most powerful, and it is locked in a challenging square aspect  to the Capricorn planets of repression and control, which has added a powder keg of reactivity and served to add flames to a fire that was already burning.  Mars turned retrograde on September 9th and Saturn and Pluto turn direct next week, so all three planets are at a virtual standstill in the sky, feeding the flames as we struggle to find a way to utilize the fire of Mars in constructive ways that will help us to rebuild and reshape our lives for an uncertain future.

In the midst of this we have a Full Moon in Aries on October 1st.  Aries, the first sign of the Zodiac, is the sign of self-determination.  Ruled by Mars, Aries bestows the courage and independence to forge our own path in life, driven by desire and inspiration.  Mars gets a bad rap in the astrology world, being the god of war and all, but a healthy Mars is essential to our well being. Mars encourages us to follow our dreams – planting the seeds of desire, Mars energizes us to pursue our […]

The astrology of Andreas Lubitz, suicide co-pilot

Andreas Lubitz astrologyRecent news reports reveal that the copilot in the recent crash of a Germanwings airliner had locked the pilot out of the cockpit and steered the plane into a mountain, killing himself and 149 other people, leaving the rest of humanity mystified.  Those who knew him described him as friendly, polite, quiet – something we often hear in these situations.

A look at the astrological chart of an individual can often provide an explanation for why someone behaves in a certain way.  It should never be taken as an excuse.  There are plenty of people with the same planetary configurations that this gentleman had who would never have flown a plane full of passengers into the Alps.  I present this analysis in order to educate about the workings of the planets – not to excuse the actions of the copilot.

Andreas Lubitz (born December 18, 1987, time and place unknown) has several difficult and painful combinations of planets in his chart.  Born with the Sun in Sagittarius, typically a freedom-loving expansive personality, his Sun was flanked by Saturn (restriction) and Uranus (rebellion) and opposed by Chiron (wounding and healing).  The stressful opposition (180 degree aspect) of Chiron to the Saturn/Sun/Uranus combination shows an individual who has come into this life with a predisposition towards emotional sensitivity and probably with a great deal of psychological wounding.

Strong Chiron contacts such as this often result in depression because one must go THROUGH the wounds in order to heal and ultimately become free of the emotional pain.  Some personality types are better suited to the kind of introspection and psychological work required to heal Chironic wounds.  Sagittarius does not care for that kind of emotional work and often responds by running away from it.

The Sagittarius […]

Soul surgery: Planetary news this week

Art by Gaelyn Garrick

Those of us on a spiritual path seek transformation and spiritual evolution but then resist it when the experience is upon us.  This is human nature since the ego seeks to control the experience of the life – to surrender that control can be frightening to many of us, especially if we have planets in fixed signs (like I do!!) which tend to be more inflexible and lack adaptability.

But life is about change and adaptation, and understanding the astrological cycles can help us to find peace within the storm of change.  When we recognize the dynamics of change that are at work in the form of planetary energies it becomes easier to work with them – they become trusted teachers and we know more about what we can expect in times of change.

A few days ago Venus opposed Chiron, the Soul Healer, and today the Sun is opposite Chiron. Relationships may be more painful than usual now as Chiron goes about his job as Soul Surgeon, exposing any sensitive places in the heart so that they can become healed. This kind of emotional sensitivity is quickly healed if we permit ourselves to consciously move through these experiences and allow these old thoughts, feelings or memories to emerge and then be released.

Venus made a trine to Pluto last night, helping to soften the rough edges and help us to be real and genuine in our relationships with others for the next 12 hours or so.  The Moon is moving away from Mars and it’s easier to express our vulnerability under the Cancerian influence. Meanwhile the Sun/Chiron opposition helps to crack open the protection that we keep over our wounds so that we can blossom […]
