Taurus Scorpio polarity

Passion and adjustment: Scorpio Full Moon May 7, 2020

At any Full Moon we are dealing with two opposite signs with opposing polarities, each one needing what the other one possesses in order to become truly whole.  This can serve to bring out our inner contradictions, and heighten the intense emotionality for which the Full Moon is well known.  The Scorpio Full Moon features an opposition to the Taurus Sun: the intensity and passion of Scorpio needs to find balance against the need for serenity and peacefulness of Taurus.  Both are fixed signs: stubborn and powerful, with a tendency towards rigidity and difficulty letting go.  Scorpio, though, is intensely emotional and dramatic where Taurus is, or at least wants to be, placid but still powerful – very like the bull for which it is named.

This Full Moon reminds us that we can become our best selves when we find balance between these two dynamics:  the power of emotions and the power of stillness.  The potency of this time is echoed in the fact that the astrological Beltane, a fire festival honoring the god Belenos (the shining one), occurs at the midway point between the vernal equinox and the summer solstice, at 15 degrees Taurus.  The Vesak festival honoring not only the birth of Buddha, but also his enlightenment and death,  is a festival of lights which takes place each year at the Scorpio Full Moon.  Scorpio is ruled for its passionate potency, and the Scorpio Full Moon has the potential to create a powerful force of Will which can be used to create and manifest.  The Scorpio Full Moon calls on us to explore the deep realms of the unconscious and our own passionate natures and come to terms with our own inner […]

Seeking comfort and healing under the Taurus Full Moon October 27th

Taurus Full Moon October 2015 Wheel of Life by Kim Dreyer

When the Moon is full and brightest in the sky, it is always opposite the Sun, meaning the Moon and Sun are in opposite signs.  Signs in oppositions are polarities – there is a tension between the energies and a need to find balance.

Normally the Solar energy is more powerful than the Lunar.  The Moon moves more quickly, and its influence tends to be fleeting.  But at the fulfillment of the lunar cycle, when the waxing portion of the cycle is complete and the waning portion is about to begin, the Moon is at her most glorious and her influence is most potent.

The Taurus Full Moon on October 27th seeks comfort in the physical world – it is a sign that fully appreciates the sensory experiences that can be enjoyed through life in a body. as well as security through financial stability and a safe expectation that one day will follow another without too many surprises.  The Taurean need for peacefulness and balance is opposed by the Scorpio Sun which demands an added layer of probing and emotional intensity.  Both Taurus and Scorpio are fixed signs – they create power through perseverance.  But Taurus is ruled by Venus and Scorpio by Mars – and under the Taurus Full Moon the Venusian influence of love and harmony must work through the Martian focus on desire and motivation in order to find true balance.

In this Full Moon a triple conjunction from both Mars (energy), Venus (relating) and Jupiter (confidence and good fortune) are embedded in this chart which is generally very positive since the planetary rulers of the Full Moon (Mars and Venus) are aligned with Jupiter’s supreme beneficence and good […]

Scorpio Full Moon May 2015: the Cauldron of Transformation

Scorpio Full Moon May 2015 Art by Jennifer Shearer

Once the Moon enters Scorpio late on May 2nd it will begin to form the Full Moon opposition formation against the Taurus Sun, stimulating the beginning of the lunar experience. All Full Moons are formed by a polarity between the Sun in one sign balanced against the Moon in the opposite sign. Each opposing pair is a cycle of energy that flows from one sign to the other, each sign containing what the other lacks. Scorpio and Taurus are both fixed signs, both are highly personal signs with one being ruled by Mars (Scorpio) and one by Venus (Taurus). Both are concerned with matters of earthly life, but in Taurus we hold on to who we are, and in Scorpio we must let go of who we think we are in order to become transformed in the purging fire. Taurus seeks harmony and serenity, and Scorpio seeks passion and drama.

You can see why a Taurus or Scorpio Full Moon is intense! At the Scorpio Full Moon we find every aspect of our being intensified under Scorpio as the Taurus Sun encourages us to ground into the earth and find pleasure in simplicity. The planet Mercury (mind and intellect) is opposite Saturn (focus and achievement) which inspires us to take all matters more seriously. This can help us to become more full engaged in the process of lifting the darkness within us into light and accepting all aspects of ourselves with greater awareness.

The Sun and Moon both form a challenging square to Jupiter during this lunation (lunar event), expanding our sense of what is possible and helping us to let go of anything that causes us to feel […]
