Uranus in Taurus

The changing nature of money under Uranus

The planetary influence of Uranus manifests in disruption of the status quo – whatever sign Uranus travels through will bring disruption and radical reshaping of the worldly matters that are associated with that sign. Often this radical change includes a technological factor since Uranus rules technology and invention, and this has been true with Uranus in Taurus.

Uranus has been in Taurus since the fall of 2018, corresponding to the cryptocurrency boom. Taurus is an earth sign and describes the way we achieve economic security and a sense of material well-being, including financial wealth and finance so with Uranus in Taurus we would expect to see a change in the way things of value are exchanged. (See my article from 2018 about a Swiss referendum on the ability of banks to create money out of thin air.)

In any case, after Pluto (destruction and re-creation) entered Capricorn (societal structures such as banks) in 2008 resulting in the financial crash, the resulting lack of trust in global financial systems led to an embrace of new ways of handling money. Bitcoin emerged in 2009 but didn’t gain a foothold until 2010 when it was primarily used for secretive transactions by renegades on the dark web (Uranus was in independent Aries at the time).

During the challenging square from Uranus to Pluto that lasted between 2011 and 2017 there were all kinds of disruptions and revolutions, and this provided a fertile ground for monetary changes, and then in 2018 when Uranus moved into Taurus Bitcoin exploded.

This was not the first time Uranus in Taurus had radically changed the nature of money. When Uranus was last in Taurus, the […]

Mania and depression in the financial markets

Earlier in December I wrote about the stock market roller coaster of the past year, and since then it’s gotten even crazier, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average careening from 23,693 on December 19th to a low of 21,721 on December 26th, and zooming up over 1000 points yesterday, the biggest single increase in history.

I lay the blame for this erratic volatility partly on the last gasp of Uranus, planet of disruption, traveling through the fiery sign of Aries for the last time through the end of February.

Meanwhile Jupiter (the planet most closely associated with the stock market) and Mercury (thoughts and ideas) are both in the highly optimistic sign of Sagittarius, so even when the markets drop investors are seeing this as an opportunity to “buy the dip” rather than a depression.  But with Saturn and Pluto both in the highly realistic sign of Capricorn, this optimism is not likely to be permanent.  With Uranus colliding with fast moving Mars in mid-February we are likely to have continued volatility for the next couple of months.  Then when Uranus moves back into the security-minded sign of Taurus in early March and Venus enters dour Capricorn along with Saturn and Pluto, I believe that we will see a pretty serious pullback of financial markets.

I am not a financial advisor, but I do believe that caution is the name of the game here.  With such a predominance of earthy energy in 2019, and Jupiter’s entry into Capricorn along with Venus’s return in December, solid investments rather than media darlings are going to be the survivors if financial markets begin to collapse.

Uranus square the lunar nodes: Change is inevitable, progress is optional

Over the past week, and throughout November, the planet Uranus and the lunar nodes will be locked in a square (90 degree) formation.  The nodes of the Moon are points where the journey of the Moon through the sky crosses the path of the Sun, and these points are associated with the soul’s journey from past to future.

I view the outer planets as transformational forces which inspire us, activating something in the personality in order to create change where change is necessary.  Uranus is the planet of change itself – under the influence of Uranus we tend to become restless with anything in our lives that feels stuck, and sometimes we find ourselves faced with shocking events that serve to knock us from our comfort zone.

Our lives are built on patterns of expectation.  We expect that we will wake up in the morning, and that we will follow our normal routines during the day.  Uranus tends to break apart those expectations, at best helping us to see our lives through new eyes.  At its most difficult, Uranus can bring about a drastic change that forces a change in perspective.

Planetary cycles occur on several planes at once.  The alignment of the planets in the sky (which I write about in my Planetary Illuminations newsletter) affect everyone on the planet on a macro level.  When these alignments interact with the planets in our own natal chart, they stimulate change or evolution on a much more personal level.  There are other layers of planetary influence as well: to our relationships, to our communities and countries, to our evolving selves.

The current square between Uranus and the lunar nodes could bring about surprising events in our lives that shake us […]

Breaking free of the restrictions of comfort with Uranus in Taurus

Uranus is currently traveling through the sign of Taurus until 2026.  Uranus represents a breaking free of old paradigms; disruption, radical change and revolutionary acts.  Taurus is the sign of physical comfort, material security, sensual enjoyment.  Read more about this cycle here

I came across this article recently and found it perfect to express some of what is going on with Uranus traveling through Taurus.  The author is talking about Fredrik Nietzsche’s “Overman” or “Ubermensch,” the hero archetype who transcends religious values to overcome the Self on his/her own.  This concept might be offensive to some readers and for that I apologize.  But the idea that in seeking comfort we often find ourselves stagnating in a life that no longer suits us is very relevant regardless of our religious views.

Each one of us has a different relationship with comfort as revealed in the natal astrological chart.  For the more fiery types with lots of Aries and Sagittarius and a strong Mars, comfort is an overrated limitation and adventure and risk and adventure is what makes them feel alive.  Earthy and watery types with Cancer, Virgo and Taurus planets are more likely to cherish material comforts and fear the very thought of expanding too far beyond the comfort zone.  Neither is better than the other, we are all just different.

That said, we can become stuck in our own comfort zones.  The adventurer can become stuck in the frenzy of always being on the move and never taking the time to face their own fears and emotions that may come when they are in one place to long.  The homebody can become stuck in the comfort of being surrounded by the things they love […]

Money gets a new look under Uranus in Taurus

The Wall Street Journal recently published an article about a referendum in Switzerland regarding the very nature of money.  You will probably hit a paywall, but here is the relevant portion:

A decade after the collapse of Lehman Brothers, the world is still debating the causes of the financial crisis—down to the meaning of money itself.

In buttoned-down Switzerland, that debate is taking the form of a nationwide referendum set for June 10. Voters are being asked to consider fundamental questions rooted in the crisis: what is money; who creates it; and how safe is it? And they’ll have a chance to blow up one of the foundational features of global finance: the ability of banks to create money with just a few keystrokes.

That’s right, if a bank gives you a loan, it can pretty much create the money on the spot. It’s something that banks do every day around the world. It means that all money isn’t created equally, and the cash that pops out of an ATM machine isn’t the same as the numbers on a bank statement.

But if the Swiss referendum passes, all money creation there would have to be done directly by the country’s central bank.

Taurus represents all that is solid in our world – tangible, earthbound, things that we can touch.  Along those lines, it governs personal possessions and the accumulation of wealth and financial security.  As Uranus travels through Taurus, these ideas are likely to be disrupted and paradigms shifted.

The global financial system is pretty much based on ideas and trust, and this of course leads to financial collapse from time to time.  In my house, I rarely see actual money changing hands.  Income is automatically deposited into […]
