Venus conjunct Pluto

Astrological news this week: A war with no retrogrades and a Pisces New Moon

link

February 28 through March 7, 2022.  Maybe the US threatening a short dictator with Scorpio rising and Pluto conjunct the Midheaven that his country would suffer untold destruction, under a Venus/Mars/Pluto conjunction, wasn’t the best idea. Especially with Pluto exactly conjunct US Pluto on February 22nd. Sometimes we wish astrology didn’t work quite so well.

Anyway. It’s difficult to predict what will happen, although plenty of people will try. So in the meantime let’s try to change the things we can and not obsess over what we can’t, doomscrolling into the night like I’ve been doing! Let’s donate to the causes that will help the people of Ukraine like the highly rated  World Central Kitchen, feeding displaced people of which there are so many.

In the astrological news this week, we still have no planets in retrograde motion. This is a fairly unusual situation in which all planets are in direct motion so there is no going back and re-doing or re-evaluating – it’s full speed all the way. Under a condition such as this, throughout March and April, we want to think carefully about what we are planning and what actions we take since we will be on a train going in only one directly.

The Pisces New Moon on Wednesday March 2nd will be extra expansive under a conjunction to Jupiter. Under the sign of Pisces we tend to let go of some of the day to day details in favor of a yearning for an experience which is more meaningful – more relaxing, more creative. Imagination is heightened, a yearning for spiritual connection is intensified. Jupiter is the traditional ruler of Pisces, and its conjunction to the New Moon deepens the Piscean […]

Astrological news this week: The Venus/Mars/Pluto triple shot

art by Jen Delyth

As astrological weather goes, the weather for this week is fairly mild. But just as a quick intense thunderstorm can stir up a lot of debris, the tightening vise of Venus, Mars and Pluto could wreak some havoc in our personal relationships. On the positive side (and you know I always like to present all possibilities for you!) this triple conjunction can have the effect of squeezing superficiality out of our interactions and replacing it with truth and empowerment. Maybe I’m just a contrarian (ok, I AM a contrarian), but sometimes the easy opportunity times are the ones that trap us with their glitz and glamor and cause us to be unprepared for the storm. The challenging planetary cycles build resilience and wisdom.

Anyway, this week is relatively peaceful overall – no lunar events, no outer planet alignments to confront our sense of reality. The Sun, newly in Pisces, joins Jupiter and Neptune (co-rulers of Pisces) for a festival of divine love, compassionate hearts, and boundless creativity. And the faster moving planetary alignments are harmonious and supportive. So the only potential challenge is the tightening of Venus, Mars and Pluto.  Venus and Mars have been a team (conjunct) for the past couple of weeks, inspiring us to better integrate the yin (Venus) with the yang (Mars) principles in order to achieve greater harmony. Mercury was conjunct Pluto for weeks (it was stationary within a few degrees of Pluto as it turned direct), intensifying communication and mental focus (maybe not the best time for a US/Russia conference!).

Venus conjoined Mars on February 16th and since then hasn’t moved more than one degree from Mars, meaning the two continue to act as a team. Venus […]

Astrological update for the week of December 27 2021: A New Year and a New Moon

This week we have a new month, a new year, and a Capricorn New Moon – an abundance of fresh new energies to help sweep away the cobwebs and help us to have a fresh start.  No matter how well my life is going I always love that feeling that each morning is a new day and a new opportunity to awaken in a different way.

If you missed my 2022 forecast you can catch up here. Spoiler alert: We are not out of the woods yet. 😃  Meanwhile though, this week Jupiter enters Pisces on December 28th/29th which will give us a push into the dreamy optimism of Jupiter traveling through its own sign. Jupiter was already in Pisces for part of 2021 and this is its last vacation before entering Aries in May 2022 when the energies will become more forceful and dedicated towards self-preservation rather than the communal justice that Jupiter seeks in Pisces.

Venus has been within range of a conjunction to Pluto for the past few weeks and it will finally begin to separate after this week.  If you’ve been experiencing difficulty in relationships of all kinds we can blame this aspect between the planet of connection (Venus) and the planet of destruction (Pluto).  Still, Venus is retrograde for another few weeks and we are looking back over the past to see where repairs can be made in problematic areas.

Finally, the New Moon in Capricorn takes place on January 2nd – a new beginning in the creation of structures (Capricorn) to serve our new reality. I suppose technically reality won’t change much between December 31 and January 2, but this is such an excellent opportunity to facilitate a new resolve and a […]

Astrological update for the week of December 20, 2021: Solstice, Christmas and the Limits of Freedom

art by Phoebe Wahl

Here’s what’s happening in the skies this week:

Saturn square Uranus. The final-ish square between Saturn (limits) and Uranus (liberation) occurs this week.  I’ve been calling this planetary combination “the story of 2021” and indeed it has been, thanks to the spread of Covid-19 around the world which has brought with it some peculiar re-alignments of ideas of control and freedom. Totalitarian influences which usually fall more on the side of control of society are now calling for liberation from Covid restrictions.  Liberal influences which typically rebel against restrictions are calling for severe mandates and lockdowns.

I’m calling this the “final-ish” square because the two will return to a tight alignment in the summer and fall of 2022, although they will not come to an exact aspect after this week.  Will that bring a solution to the world’s problems?  I doubt it, because it seems to me that these problems are caused not by the planetary alignments but by the general dysfunction of human life on planet Earth and especially here in the United States.  But the intense conflict over control and freedom is likely to subside, although that may not be true in the US where the Pluto return in 2022-2024 will continue bring up the poisons to the surface where they can be transformed and released (ideally!).

Retrograde Venus conjunct Pluto.  The alignment of Venus with Pluto is a potent combination which began in early December, and the second phase occurs this week on December 25th (just in time for those family gatherings!).  This alignment is not easy and could expose power conflicts, but it also has the potential to create deep transformation in our self-esteem as well as our interpersonal connections. Venus […]

The meaning of Venus retrograde in Capricorn, 2021-2022

art by Emily Balivet

Venus usually slips through our lives like a whisper, and we barely experience her transits.  Her influence is usually soft and encouraging and I often say that we only really take notice when we experience discomfort of some kind.  Even the challenging transits of Venus are benign, offering us only an opportunity to indulge in greater indulgence.  Venus is currently at the end of Capricorn and has been in a challenging conjunction to Pluto for the past week or so.  In Capricorn, everything we do takes on a more somber flavor and when we’re talking about Venus that includes our approach to aesthetics and everything we hold dear in addition to relationships.  As the goddess of love and beauty, she bestows an attractive power and grace, but that attractive power draws more than love.  It can also be a magnet for financial wealth and personal possessions so in that way, Venus is said to rule our values and the things that we love as well as the people. Venus also rules our ability to love and relate to our self, and the kind of talents and personal resources that we possess as well as the material possessions.

Venus turns retrograde every 18 months or so and over time it forms a beautiful pentagram design like an unfolding rose.  Astrologer David Crook explains:  “Venus orbits the sun once every 224.7 days, while the Earth every 365.25 days. The ratio of these two periods is 0.615, or about 8 to 13. Since the difference between 8 & 13 is 5, the path of Venus has a five-fold symmetry relative to Earth = The Rose of […]
