Venus in Aquarius

Sunday poetry: The world was made to be free in.

Art by Melissa Chen

The yearning to be free is a hallmark of the Aquarian energies in which we find ourselves. Mercury and Saturn have been in Aquarius, and now they are joined by Mars and Venus. The invasion of Ukraine by Russia is creating ripples of political conflict that sets basic rights of freedom against authoritarianism.  We cannot change the world, but we can change our own inner state of self-repression and despair. Towards this end I offer a beautiful poem by David Whyte.  ❤️

Sweet Darkness
When your eyes are tired
the world is tired also.
When your vision has gone
no part of the world can find you.

Time to go into the dark
where the night has eyes
to recognize its own.
There you can be sure
you are not beyond love.

The dark will be your womb
tonight.
The night will give you a horizon
further than you can see.

You must learn one thing:
the world was made to be free in.
Give up all the other worlds
except the one to which you belong.

Sometimes it takes darkness and the sweet
confinement of your aloneness
to learn
anything or anyone
that does not bring you alive
is too small for you.

2.19.21 Personal adjustments with Venus in Aquarius square Mars in Taurus

artist unknown

Right now with so many planets in Aquarius, a sign of impersonal detachment and objectivity, it can be easy to forget that our interactions with others can be unpredictable and fraught with potential landmines of emotional reactions, the eruption of old wounds, and mysterious feelings over which we have no control.  Today (February 19th) is one of those days.  Venus is in Aquarius where we do tend to be more detached and prefer interactions that are reliably sensible, but Venus squares Mars today (90 degree aspect) which pits our own needs and interests (Mars) against those of a harmonious and comfortable alliance with others (Venus).

Mars is in Taurus, ruled by Venus, which makes this challenging alignment more of a gentle push than a hard shove but it will be important today to gently (Venus) assert our needs (Mars) where appropriate, and be clear about what we want (Mars) from others (Venus).  This is often easier said than done, but if we can use our emotional intelligence to determine the best route through an interpersonal difficulty, we will certainly be successful!  ❤️

2.5.21 Solitude and detachment for a few days with Venus activations

artist unknown?

On February 5th, Saturn is within one degree of an exact square to Uranus that culminates on February 17th.  The Saturn/Uranus square is the story of 2021: Conflict between the old way (Saturn) and the changing world (Uranus). However, Saturn is in Aquarius which is RULED by Uranus so it’s already connected to the theme of change for the next two years.  Saturn is the planet that brings form to the theoretical, and in Aquarius we are likely to see innovation and technological advances which change our world in all kinds of ways.

Venus is just one of five planetary bodies currently in Aquarius.  When the planet of connection is in the sign of detachment and reason, emotions and feelings take a back seat and the role of the individual in the collective, an Aquarius theme, dominates human interactions.  The conjunction from Venus to Saturn today and tomorrow (February 5th and 6th) could create some isolation, and this will be exacerbated by the square from Venus to Saturn on the 6th. Knowing that these energies are present will help us to use this time to envision our ideal situations with the people around us, but not necessarily forge that connection until this cycle is over and Venus begins to align with hopeful and optimistic Jupiter instead.

2.2.21. Venus enters Aquarius to liberate and enlighten

art by Helena Nelson Reed

Although Venus usually craves connection and attachment, under the influence of Aquarius she becomes more interested in autonomy and refers to use the perspective of a bit of distance to discover her idealized form of relationship. While Venus is in Aquarius, more emotional interactions are not likely to be successful and in fact could become frustrating and counterproductive. Today with the Moon in Libra, interest in relating is high, and the Sun harmonizes with Juno to further highlight responsibility in relationships.

Under Aquarius we seek to create change and bring more air and space into our relationships, but the Libra Moon and Sun/Juno aspect demands that we honor our commitments and nurture our connections.  In our interactions with others, a little more listening to what others are saying will help us to understand them and that will ultimately improve our connection. Then when Venus moves into Pisces, the warm emotional connection will be that much more rewarding.

Planetary news this week! The Winter Solstice turns the wheel

photo from Anthony Murphy

The planetary energies are relatively quiet this week and mostly benevolent.  The effect of Jupiter in a harmonious trine to Uranus which culminated last week still lingers for another week or so.  With no other major planetary alignments to dilute the effect of this wonderful trine, we can create real magic. Jupiter’s expansive influence can help us to more easily receive the multidimensional consciousness that Uranus bestows when we can become unstuck from our outmoded thoughts and ideas.

Between the 18th and the 20th we have a harmonious connection (sextile) between Mars (action) and Saturn (structure) that will really help us to focus and achieve whatever we put our minds to.  Mars is in Scorpio right now where its aggressive nature is able to operate freely, and with the support of Saturn’s discipline we have a serious aid to buckling down and accomplishing a goal.  However, Mercury (mind) faces off in a challenging square to Neptune (imagination and illusion).  While our energies our focused under Mars/Saturn, this Mercury aspect heightens imagination and creativity, but also fosters a tendency towards woolgathering and spaciness.  Keep that in mind when you make your plans for these few days and make sure that you allow some time for creativity and to let your imagination run wild while in achievement mode.

Venus moves into Aquarius on December 20th, and for the next few weeks all of our interactions with others (Venus) will take on the Aquarian qualities of detachment and reason.  Aquarius is humanitarian and concerned for social justice, but it is more of an idea than an empathic connection.  Under Venus in Aquarius, we need space in our connections as we follow our ideals for the […]
