Astrological update for the week of August 23, 2021: Virgo season and Full Moon recovery

art by Carla Seaton

There was quite a discussion on my Facebook page Sunday about the sleeplessness of the Aquarius Full Moon!  With Uranus stationary in the sky and modern ruler of the lunation, the Uranian pressure to wake up can happen a bit too literally.  In any case, the Sun moved into Virgo shortly after the 29 degree Full Moon and joined Mercury and Mars which are already in Virgo, taking us fully into Virgo Season.

The sign that the Sun is in acts as a filter for our conscious experiences, and the Sun in Virgo is all about wrapping up the details.  We are nearly halfway through the zodiac, and it’s time to assimilate the experiences of the signs that came before before we make the shift at the Equinox into Libra and complete the passage around the wheel of time.  Transits of the Sun are typically pretty mild – they last only a day or so and simply serve to illuminate or call our attention to something which may have been hidden in the darkness of the subconscious.

This week is pretty quiet astrologically and offers a chance to regain our balance and hopefully get a good night’s sleep!  And now, the week ahead. (Dates and times are given in EDT and UTC, please adjust for your locality.)

Monday, August 23.  Our connections are strengthened all day through a harmonious trine from Venus, in Libra where it is at its strongest, urging us to pursue beauty and love in all things, to Saturn, planet of structure and control.  Venus/Saturn aspects promote responsible interactions and easier commitments, and facilitates greater balance and equality in relationships.  The Moon, in Pisces where we tend to feel more of […]

Astrological forecast for the week of August 16, 2021: Retrograde season and a Full Moon

There is a lot going on this week, so grab a cup of coffee or tea and let’s get started!

Retrograde season. This week Uranus turns retrograde, but it has been virtually stationary at 14 degrees Taurus for six weeks.  When a planet prepares for a direction change it appears to be at a standstill, just like a car that is making a U-turn.  At that time its influence can be the most potent, especially if it is hitting a sensitive point in your chart (anywhere from 10-20 degrees of the fixed signs Taurus, Scorpio, Leo or Aquarius).

With Uranus turning retrograde we will have four major planets retrograde plus Chiron, for a total of five.  That is on the high side of normal and nowhere close to the retrograde energies of 2020 when every planet which could turn retrograde WAS retrograde.  Still, in September Mercury will turn retrograde and then there will be six so we are definitely in retrograde season.  This means that life will not progress at the pace which we strive for, and there may be a lot of looking in the rear view mirror to see where mistakes were made, and having to make those repairs before we can look ahead once again.  Meanwhile the Uranian influence is powerful – revolution, reaction, breaking free of restraints and regulations – all of these energies are deep at work to rip away the trappings of the old age as we go hurtling into the new one.

Venus enters Libra.  Venus enters its own sign of Libra just after midnight on August 16.  Venus is most at home in Libra, and for the next few weeks harmony and a peaceful experience will be of paramount importance.  Venus craves […]

11.9.20 Integration required with Venus opposite Mars today

art by Caroline Maniere

Today we have Venus in its own sign of Libra opposite Mars in its own sign of Aries.  This is the most pure form of this polarity between Venus, the planet of connection and accommodation (as well as beauty and aesthetics and values and so much more) facing off against Mars, the planet of individuation and desire and need (as well as motivation and anger and boundaries etc.).  All oppositions represent polarities that require integration.  If we give in too much in the name of achieving harmony under Venus in Libra, we will lose a sense of Self that Mars requires.  But if we focus too much on our own needs under Mars in Aries, we lose the ability to connect with others and achieve more satisfying relationships.

The Moon has just entered Virgo which aids in the effort to create order, and this can be a real help today in finding that balance point.  Later today the Moon will align in a harmonious trine to Uranus which can foster new ideas and the discovery of a new way to break out of a difficult situation.  The keyword for today’s influences is Balance Point.  ❤️

Planetary news this week! Jupiter in Scorpio and Venus in Libra

Harmony by Ann Marie Bone

Two planets change signs this week: Jupiter moves into Scorpio on October 10th, and Libra into Venus on the 14th.  When planets change signs there is a shift of focus and a shift of energies that can help us to break out of old patterns and find new pathways to move our lives along in a new direction.

Jupiter will be in Scorpio for about a year, and you can read more about that cycle here,  In its role as King of the Gods, Jupiter brings a higher awareness to the energies of the sign through which it moves, and in Scorpio Jupiter seeks a broader awareness and higher expression of power, emotional intensity, sexuality, and shared finance such as taxes and financial markets. But Jupiter is also known for excessive confidence and complacency, such as we saw in 2005-06 when Jupiter was last in Scorpio and presided over the expansion of the housing market.  Scorpio is also associated with secrets and mysteries, and Jupiter’s travels through Scorpio often bring up new revelations from the mists of time.

While Jupiter is in Scorpio (until November 8, 2018) it will be difficult to hide from our shadow Self.  That may sound negative and it CAN be dysfunctional if we become stuck in the shadow rather than face the darkness and find our way to the light. True empowerment lies in facing our inner Truth and mining it for all of the riches that are found there.

Venus moves more quickly and changes signs every 23 days or so except during its retrograde phases. The influence of Venus is not very powerful and we tend not to notice it as much, but the transition from the […]

Taurus Full Moon, October 29 2012

Taurus Full Moon 2012 Art by Gustav Verderber

The Full Moon in Taurus is a blessing from the Earth.  Taurus is the earthiest of all of the earth signs – it is a fixed sign so it encourages stability and perseverance, but is also stubborn and unyielding.  As an earth sign, Taurus is concerned with practical matters and physical comfort.  Sensual experiences of food and touch are important for Taurus, and for all of us under the Taurus Full Moon.

When the Moon is full in Taurus, the Scorpio Sun is exactly opposite the Moon.  Full Moons are the apex of the lunar cycle, and the opposition  (180 degree) aspect requires integration of polar opposites.  Where Taurus longs for peace and comfort, Scorpio demands intensity and passionate involvement.  Where Taurus seeks security, Scorpio is an emotional risk-taker.  It is this tension that creates the emotionality that Full Moons are famous for.

Still, Venus (attraction and relating) will have just moved from Virgo into Libra, bringing light into our relationships and bringing greater interpersonal balance.  In addition, Mercury moves into Sagittarius on the day of the Full Moon which begins a few weeks of a more optimistic period in which we seek a larger view of life and find more hope and faith.

Mercury is preparing to turn retrograde and has slowed down in preparation of its change of direction, so Mercury is very important right now.  A challenging square from Mercury to Neptune (delusion, spiritual yearning) is embedded in the chart of the Full Moon and can bring some confusion as some of the details that keep us anchored in the physical world become unraveled. If we let go and spend some time in meditation and inner […]
