The refreshing mysteries of the Pisces Full Moon

This Full Moon in Pisces is a watery pool of magic!  In Pisces we see through the heart and the soul, using our amazing creative intelligence to unwrap gifts of consciousness from the Universal Mind. However, with the Pisces Moon opposite the Virgo Sun we may lose sight momentarily of the worldly details (Virgo) that keep us rooted on Planet Earth.  Pisces is a sign of magic and imagination, as well as mysticism and spirituality.  Under its influence we seek to merge into a feeling of bliss and unity with the One, but it can also be somewhat destabilizing in its watery call to realms unknown.  However, there is a great deal of Earth energy in the skies right now, with three planets in Capricorn and the Virgo Sun providing a balance point to help ground the Piscean mysticism into a mundane form to which we can more easily relate.

Embedded in the chart of the Full Moon is a harmonious trine from Uranus, planet of innovation and change, to the Sun (and a sextile to the Moon.  This Uranian aspect helps to break up a little of the earthy practicality and offers a taste of liberation and an opportunity for a paradigm shift. A trine from Mercury to Saturn offers even greater stability and diligent patience to assist in crystallizing the Piscean experience into something we can make practical use of.

We do have some potential stress from a challenging aspect between Venus (relating) and both Mars (self-orientation) and Saturn (solitude and tension) which could make personal relationships somewhat more difficult if we expect too much from others during this Full Moon.  Venus aspects typically last just a day or so, but when embedded in a lunar chart they […]

The dark and light faces of Venus at the Libra New Moon

Art by Catherine Roche.

The New Moon is the fusion of the Sun and the Moon – the solar light combines with lunar illumination of the darkness for the beginning of a new lunar cycle. New Moons have long been known as times to begin something new: to plant new seeds, to create, to bring something new into being.

This New Moon is in the sign of Libra. Ruled by the planet Venus, Libra is the sign that teaches equanimity, balance, and the integration of opposites. Under the influence of Libra we easily see both sides of a question. We are sensitive to disharmony and learn manipulate our outer surroundings in order to bring our inner world into a more harmonious state. Venus is associated with attraction, including our ability to attract that which we desire as well as the force of attraction that connects individuals and fosters relationship.

Typically, the Libra New Moon is a time to begin new connections and find ways to attain greater balance in our lives, including in our relationships with others. But the ruler of this Libra New Moon is in Scorpio, a sign of intensity and passion and Truth above all things. Where Libra values politeness and harmonious experiences, Scorpio cares little for social niceties and prefers an environment where the Truth is known regardless of the social cost.

Scorpio is ruled by the planet Mars; where Venus is soft and interested in beauty and peacefulness, Mars is hard, associated with war and concerned primarily with aggression and desire. In addition, Venus (traveling retrograde and therefore taking us back into unfinished business)   will be facing off against Mars in a challenging square.  This duality between Mars (our personal Will) and […]

Venus retrograde in Scorpio: October 5, 2018 – November 16, 2018

Venus retrogradeDeviant Art.  Venus turns retrograde on October 5th and will be retrograde until November 16th, 2018.

Venus usually slips through our lives like a whisper, and we barely experience her fleeting transits. Her influence is usually soft and encouraging and I often say that we only really take notice when we experience discomfort of some kind. Even the challenging transits of Venus are benign, offering us only an opportunity to indulge in greater indulgence.  When Venus is retrograde, however, she moves more slowly and deliberately and her influence is therefore more powerful.  Planets are said to be traveling in retrograde motion when they appear to move backwards from our perspective on earth. During these times their influence causes us to look back instead of forward as we encounter the experiences of that planet.

Venus is famous for her influence on relationships. As the goddess of love and beauty, she bestows an attractive power and grace, but that attractive power draws more than love. It can also a magnet for financial wealth and personal possessions so in that way, Venus is said to rule our values and the things that we love as well as the people. Venus also rules our ability to love and relate to our self, and the kind of talents and personal resources that we possess as well as the material possessions.

Venus only turns retrograde every 18 months or so.  These are excellent times to reconnect with friends or loved ones from the past, or to repair relationships that have suffered.  These are not always the best times to begin new relationships, but that doesn’t mean you should shy away from meeting new people.  Often when Venus is retrograde we can learn a […]
