Planetary news this week: Virgo season and the Venus influence

Astrological update for the week of August 22-29, 2022

Virgo New Moon. This week we move into Virgo season with the Sun entering Virgo on Tuesday August 23rd EDT and the Virgo New Moon on Saturday the 27th. Virgo season shifts the energies from the fiery solar/Leo passions into the cooler sensations as we begin the transition to autumn and the days begin to wane in the northern hemisphere. Under the influence of Virgo we start paying more attention to the details of our lives, creating rituals and routines that will support the necessities of life in a body. Hygiene, exercise, proper nutrition – all of these things become more important now.

The Virgo New Moon is full of passion and a drive for change, something unexpected for Virgo which is often cautious and does not embrace new things easily. The Virgo Sun and Moon are in a challenging aspect to Mars in Gemini, suggesting choices to be made and a disruption of some sort. In addition, the square from Saturn to Uranus, the cycle of unrest that I called the Story of 2021, is tightening and will be as strong as it will be this year.

Virgo asks that we take care of the details, but at this New Moon the details are being pressured to change and realign for a new reality.

Mercury in Libra. Virgo’s ruler Mercury changes signs this week, leaving its own sign of Virgo for Libra where it will be until it retrogrades back into Virgo on September 23rd (Mercury will turn retrograde on September 9th). Mercury in Libra fosters a desire for greater equanimity and peaceful exchange, something we could all need right now.

Here’s what you […]

Astrological forecast for the week of September 6, 2021: Mostly sunny with a hint of regret

This week we have no major planetary aspects causing trouble, and the week begins with the energies of the Virgo New Moon (catch up here if you missed it) lingering for the first few days. New Moons bring that sense of a clean slate, and here we have a trine from Uranus which helps to break up old patterns and stuck energy to help us to formulate a plan under the Virgo influence.  The New Moon is exact on September 6th at 8:51 pm if you choose to celebrate this new beginning with a little more formality.

There’s really no more big influences to discuss, so let’s go right to the weekly forecast!  (Dates and times are given in EDT and UTC, please adjust for your own locality.)

Monday September 6. Venus and Mars are active in the chart of the New Moon, and also during the first few days of the week.   Mars, in Virgo where the details are important to make everything work, harmonizes with Pluto (trine) Monday morning helps us to focus our energies into something important, but Venus in Libra, craving harmony and peaceful exchange, has just formed a challenging square to Pluto on Sunday evening.  Relationships could be somewhat intensified and perhaps if there are any power issues that need rebalancing, but on Monday Venus harmonizes with Jupiter in a beautiful trine that really could not be more fortunate.

All of these energies are embedded in the New Moon chart which carries us through much of the week.

Tuesday September 7.  The New Moon continues to infuse us with its urge to realign our lives in more effective patterns under the Virgo influence.  The Moon, still in Virgo most of […]

A new and improved beginning for the Virgo New Moon

by Lynn Hayes.  At the New Moon the energy of the Sun and Moon unite in a burst of enthusiasm, and each month as the New Moon progresses through the signs we have an opportunity to deepen our understanding of the principles of each sign in sequence.  This year’s Virgo New Moon takes place September 6 at 8:51 pm Eastern time, taking us from the Leo quest for personal satisfaction to a renewed desire to serve and perfect the human experience.  Under Virgo’s vision we are able to see where various aspects of our lives and the lives of others can be improved and sometimes, Virgo can help us to make those improvements in a practical way that has a lasting effect.

With both the Sun and Moon aligned in Virgo, the way to improvement and renewed focus is clear.  Virgo doesn’t get attached to the ego gratification of certain tasks – it’s more about what works, and what will be effective.  Virgo tends to be cautious and perhaps a bit fearful until the steps that point the way forward are made evident, so this may be more of a time of planning than for direct action.

Many of my clients feel very stuck right now.  Some were stuck before the pandemic, and with renewed fears of virus spread there’s a general sense of frustration at the continued limitations imposed on us right now whether willingly or not.  This feeling has a lot to do with the Saturn/Uranus square which is at work in 2021, forcing us to face the limits (Saturn) of liberation (Uranus) and the rebellion (Uranus) against repression (Saturn).

In any case, under Virgo’s influence we can more easily craft a plan to help us to emerge […]

Astrological update for the week of August 30, 2021: Taking care of details in the midst of confusion

So many of you have asked for some kind of recording and let’s try it this week.  There is a recording of this update at the end of the post.  Let me know what you think in the comments.

This week we have a lack of the fire element in the planetary energies, and Mars, the fire planet, will oppose watery Neptune.  Fire signifies drive, purification, frustration, motivation – it’s active in nature and energizes the processing of our experiences.  Chiron is in Aries, but since Chiron represents the unhealed wound it activate our wounds in these areas rather than provide the fuel for actualization).  When there are no planetary bodies in fire, the force for change is missing – the air of thought and intellect is present (Libra, Gemini) along with Neptune in Pisces to inspire transcendence and the letting go of fixed ideas, but the motivation is lacking.

This will be especially true in the early part of the week when Mars opposes Neptune. The alignment culminates on Wednesday September 2nd, but its influence will be felt throughout the week.  Mars is in Virgo now, motivating us to examine and order the details of life, and the Neptune factor makes that more difficult.  Neptune is like the Sirens of Homeric myth, calling us with its magic song to leave the ordinary world behind and step into magic.  Beautiful and mystical, but not very practical and therefore antithetic to Virgo Mars this week.

I recommend that we all be very careful when making decisions under this influence.  Neptune casts a glamour that can make the unrealistic look very attractive, and with the Virgo New Moon approaching on September 6th, we will want to keep our Neptunian eyewear from blurring our […]

The Virgo New Moon and a choice for the future

Virgo is what we call a mutable sign – it’s the third in a series of signs that begin with the June solstice in Cancer and prepares us for the turning of the next season as we shift into Libra the September equinox.  The dance of the “modalities” as they are called always begins at the entry into a new season with a cardinal sign of action.  The second sign is of the “fixed” nature and teaches endurance and patience.  The last sign before the seasonal shift is “mutable” – these energies enable us to let go and make that transition into the next season as marked by the solstices and the equinoxes.

The Virgo New Moon is not only the passage point to the September equinox, it also marks the end of the first half of the zodiac which focuses primarily on the personal.  In the second half we are more focused on interaction with the outer world.
Virgo teaches us to create order from chaos.  Under the influence of Virgo we learn to manage the details that are required of humans who live in a physical body, such as personal hygiene and the need to work in order to keep food on the table and a roof over our head.  At this Virgo New Moon, a new lunar cycle, we can more easily begin a new organizational routine or exercise/nutrition program to support us in the changes that are coming.
And come they will – we are in the middle of so many different evolutionary changes.  Climate change. Political change.  And not […]
