I have a bifurcated work life. (bi·fur·cate (b f r-k t , b -fûr -). To divide into two parts or branches.)
As many of you know, I have a real estate business and I have an astrology practice. That’s not surprising because I have Gemini rising – the sign of the twins governing the arena of my persona. I am happiest when I am living in two worlds at once.
The conjunction of Chiron and Neptune has been wandering back and forth over my Midheaven, which is the point of the chart at which we find our place in the world. When Neptune crossed my Midheaven the first time, along with Chiron at about 26-27 degrees, I decided to quit the real estate business. With the market tanking anyway, it seemed like the perfect time. Beliefnet picked up my blog, everything was moving forward in that direction. Finally I could do astrology full-time. I had little interest in the kind of left-brain efforts required to run a business, I just wanted to do readings all day long (Neptune) and pursue a path of healing and helping others to heal (Chiron).
Then Chiron and Neptune retrograded, going back over my Midheaven last spring and summer. Suddenly I didn’t want to do anything but play music. I cut my reading schedule way back, and continued to enjoy the slow real estate market. I was living a life of Neptune: meditation, music, yoga, daydreaming (fortunately I have a healthy savings account thanks to Jupiter in Taurus). My usual workaholic self was nowhere to be found.
Then Neptune and Chiron turned direct, once again within a few days of each other, and just as suddenly I find myself throwing myself back into the world of business. The fog lifted, and I longed for the opportunity to organize something. Neptune and Chiron will remain within a degree of my Midheaven throughout November and December, which will hopefully give me an opportunity to integrate the realm of spirit (Neptune) into both branches of my work life, allowing the wisdom of the healing path (Chiron) to penetrate all aspects of my world.
I thought about this as I read April Elliot Kent’s experience with Neptune turning direct, which mirrors my own so closely:
My individual Neptune matrix had gotten ensnared in a more pervasive and universal fog. The outer planets inch along at such a glacial pace, and stay retrograde for so long, that it’s easy to overlook their stations. But what they lack in activity, these planets more than make up for in heft. Fleet little Mercury turning retrograde or direct is irritating, yes, but it’s like a goldfish that’s jumped out of its bowl and is flopping back and forth on the table; just pick it up and toss it back in the water, and that’s that. Neptune turning retrograde or direct, on the other hand, is more like a whale that’s beached itself, and it often requires valiant efforts to push it back out to sea.
Today, my inner sky began to clear. I woke refreshed, leaped into the shower, and prepared to take off later today for a few days of R&R. The fog has lifted, and my great white whale has pushed itself back out to sea where it belongs. For now.
The Neptunian fog has a purpose: it helps us to see where we are too entrenched in the details of the material world. If we use these Neptunian times to open up to that transcendent influence and embrace it, we can navigate through the fog with greater ease and be transformed as a result.

Hello
Hello Lynn,
l am reading your blog for a while now and love your thoughts on the stars!
l can relate to this post very much, l feel pretty foggy for the past month or so. l also have a business and make music, read astrology, study it on he side. But this last month l felt so detached and ungrounded, l couldn’t get myself to work on my business at all. l just wanted to be ‘out there’, listen to music and just dream all day long. l still have this problem although now l am doing some PR for my business and l’m having a new website built…l have neptune ad chiron transitting my 6th house, venus is also retrograting in my 6th or it was until the 8th.
l am in this fog and can’t seem to be able to get out of it. l was telling friends that l feel so detached and l could just sit and listen to music forever…l feel very inspired but still find it difficult in materialize this inspiration.
thank you for shining some light on the matter l hope it will pass…
best regards
Any advice on how to “use these Neptunian times to open up to that transcendent influence and embrace it, we can navigate through the fog with greater ease and be transformed as a result.””
I have Neptune sitting on my moon,1st house, aquarius. In truth all I really want to do is watch TV
Any advice much appreciated! Feeling a little lost and foggy. Looking for that lighthouse!
I saw advice somewhere that to navigate fog, you either have to stay close to the ground or rise above it. I’ve had Neptune squaring my 10th house Mars for the last couple of years and have needed lots more rest. I’ve had to soften my drive and self-direction, say no more, and admit I need help from others. That’s all a good thing, I think. Still not sure where I’m going career-wise, but I’m letting go and seeing what happens. Neptune will be moving to oppose my Mercury and Venus next… I’m in for a long haul!
It’s hard to find the lighthouse through the Neptune fog – with any planetary transit we really have to embrace and surrender to the energy that it brings us. Obviously we still have to function in the world, which can be difficult under Neptune’s influence. If you have to work at a job, watching TV all day could be a challenge. But maybe taking a sick day to watch TV ONE day, or nap on the sofa, or read a bad novel, may be what’s required in order to navigate the Neptune time.
These times are meant for meditation and music and creativity. I have often felt that the more of these sorts of experiences we bless ourselves with in Neptunian times, the less fog we experience in the rest of our lives. And knowing the timing of the transit, by seeing your astrologer once a year, will help you to know when that fog will lift.
Thanks very much for the shout-out, Lynn. I originally wrote that blog post when Neptune turned direct last year, and when I updated it for this year’s station I was really stunned at how little editing I had to do! One year later, I was still on the couch eating leftover Halloween candy and indulging in escapist television fluff while recovering from a party. :)
Thanks Lynn. Love what you said APril – creatively stated. I do make it to work. It is just on the weekends and evenings have a hard to motivating myself. I leave for a week long meditation retreat tomorrow. I am hoping that is just what the body ordered!
Lots to think about, Lynn. Neptune has been transiting my third house and is currently squaring my ASC (after squaring my Mercury for the last time . . .) Inspiration and the ability to articulate my thoughts has been erratic, especially this past year. Defining the nebulous, creative ideas popping into my head before they drift back out hasn’t worked very well.
Very curious to see what Neptune in Pisces brings . . . :)
We must have similar angles! I, too, am experiencing the Nep/Chiron over my MC. When it went over my midheaven in 2002, my career was in for some some much-needed changes! Now that I’m working with this new conjunction, well, methinks another change is in order. And yes, I’ve been confronting some hurts related to my career (uggggh, and there’s been tears with that!).
I will try my darn hardest not to jump career change too quickly or make rash decisions in that area! My approach will be to follow an idea, and see if the doors open or affirmations from the universe that it is the way for me to go!
(sorry, I mean to reference that Uranus first crossed my midheaven in 2002, not Neptune & Chiron!)
I too not to jump at career change too quickly, but it is oooooooooooo hard. I letting myself be sad that about this path didn’t work out. I found that to be helpful.
